Justin Monologue from "Blood at the Root" by Dominique Morisseau
Performed for New Jersey Creative Arts Collaborative's Black History Month series: Memorable Monologues. Dominique Morisseau is an American playwright and actress from Detroit, Michigan. She is a MacArthur Fellowship recipient, Obie Award winner, and two-time NAACP Image Award winner. She wrote the storybook for the Tony-nominated musical Ain’t Too Proud— The Life and Times of the Temptations and served as a story editor for Showtime’s Shameless. Today’s selection for New Jersey Creative Arts Collaborative, is from Blood at the Root which is based on the Jena Six. Chris Monologue from "Sweat" by Lynn Nottage
Performed for New Jersey Creative Arts Collaborative's Black History Month series: Memorable Monologues. Lynn Nottage is an American playwright, screenwriter, and professor. She is the only woman to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice; the first in 2009 for Ruined, and the second in 2017 for Sweat, which is highlighted in today’s selection for New Jersey Creative Arts Collaborative. Nottage’s works have been widely produced worldwide and she was included in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2019. She wrote the book for the upcoming Broadway musical MJ, featuring the music of Michael Jackson.
